Learning Journey
This half term our learning journey questions are:
-
How can we make sure that everyone has a place where they can belong?
-
How can I explain why the water cycle is so important in sustaining life on Earth?
-
How can I create a story where nature brings people together?
-
How can I create a landscape in the style of LS Lowry?
Reading
This year, year 3 and 4 will be recording their reading through a reading diary. We expect children to read with an adult at least three times a week and record this in their diary with a comment. Children must have their books and diaries in school every day.
Maths
We are starting the year by looking at place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This will involve the children exploring number, collaborating, reasoning and proving their answers with resources. As the year progresses, the children will have opportunities to apply these skills when learning about fractions and measurement.
For those children in year 4, there will be regular fluency sessions which aim to develop their recall of times tables up to 12 x 12.
PE Days
Our PE days are every Tuesday and Thursday. We are lucky enough to have Premier joining us, who are taking some of the sessions on Tuesdays. The children are already enjoying these sessions, learning vital skills such as agility, having quick reactions and how to be a good team player. Please ensure that your child comes in with a clearly named PE kit.
Outdoor Learning
Our outdoor learning takes place on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate clothing (waterproof coat and wellies in the wetter and colder months, and sun cream and sun hat in the warmer, sunnier months). Our outdoor sessions are a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop skills in team building, communication and problem solving.
Homework
The children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and complete their reading diaries. They are also expected to practice their times tables (Times Tables Rockstars will support this). A short homework task, linked to our classroom learning will be set on a Friday and should be handed in by Wednesday.
