Learning Journey
This term our learning journey questions are:

Children will be immersed in a range of experiences to help them learn reading and writing skills through our learning journeys. They will produce a written outcome for each journey which will be shared with peers or family. During many journeys, the children will have a visitor or visit a location to support the development of their knowledge and skills and immerse them in the learning. Alongside knowledge and skills, the children will be developing their compassion through collaborative work, as well as developing their independence and creative in their learning journal.
Reading:
This year, Year 6 will be recording their reading through a reading journal. We expect children to read every day for at least 10 minutes. When they finish the book, they can complete a journal page about that book. Parents are expected to check in with their child, hearing them read and asking questions to check understanding of the text. Children should be bringing their reading book into school on a Monday to be checked and to have a book discussion with their peers.
Maths
In Kingfisher Class this half term, we will be looking at place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and fractions. This will involve the children exploring models and representations to present their learning, collaborating, reasoning and proving their answers. Over the year, the children will practice SATs questions and learn how to solve problems independently, preparing them for their end of key stage assessments in May.
Outdoor Learning
Our outdoor learning is currently on Tuesdays. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate clothing (waterproof coat and wellies in the wetter and colder months, and sun cream and sun hat in the warmer, sunnier months). Our outdoor sessions are a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop skills in team building, communication and problem solving.
PE
Kingfishers will have PE on a Tuesday with Premier and on a Wednesday with Mrs Kingscott. They must come to school in their PE kit.
Homework
The children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and to complete a maths or english activity. They are also expected to practice their times tables (Times Tables Rockstars will support this) if they do not know them and complete Numbots if they can. Homework books are expected to be handed in every Thursday and will be sent home every Friday. After Christmas, the children will have the opportunity to practice more SATs style questions.
SATs
In May, the children will sit the national standard assessment tests for the government. These will happen in small groups in the school with trusted adults. They will sit a reading test, grammar, punctuation and spelling test and three maths test. Parents will be sent the results of these with the end of year report.
